Planning for major events requires a careful balance between providing adequate levels of service for participants, spectators and ‘business as usual’ traffic.
GTA was commissioned by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (South Coast) to develop a model and framework for the development of venue transport models. These models will assist the precinct by providing performance measures which will be used to inform venue transport strategies and individual event transport management plans.
The pilot model included the simulation of individual vehicle and pedestrian movements to demonstrate the impact and interaction of the Games’ fleet against specific network interventions likely to be in place during peak Games operation.
This is GTA’s second involvement working on the Commonwealth Games.
