gchhs master planning
Significant population growth across South East Queensland means that public services will have to adapt to increased demand, including transport, education and healthcare. To plan for this growth, Gold Coast Hospital and Health Services (GCHHS), as part of the Queensland Department of Health, recently undertook high level master planning for hospital and health services in the Gold Coast region.
GTA Consultants supported the broader project team and GCHHS representatives by providing specialist Transport Engineering services for this project. Our role initially focussed on the completion of site inspections at a number of existing hospital and health facilities to gain a better appreciation of the form, function and operations of the on-site transport provisions and surrounding transport networks. The inspections were completed with GCHHS representatives which enabled our team to more thoroughly identify issues and opportunities having regard for the needs of staff, patients, visitors and overall facility operations.
Our team provided high-level strategic advice to inform master planning approaches, including estimated capacity for future development and required transport infrastructure to support increased hospital and health services demands. The advice centred on emergency vehicle access, car park and loading provisions, vehicle access and internal circulation arrangements. Significant emphasis was also given to the safety, efficiency and comfort of pedestrians moving between key locations within each facility and to surrounding transport nodes.
Using our extensive experience in the health sector, and through collaboration with the broader project team and GCHHS representatives, we are delighted to have played a part in planning for the sustainable growth of hospital and health services within the Gold Coast Region.
