economic evaluation: getting passengers to stations program
GTA was engaged by Public Transport Victoria (PTV) to undertake an economic evaluation of the Getting Passengers to Stations Program. The Program targets multiple stations across Melbourne’s rail network where infrastructure issues impede customer access. The Program involves upgrades to commuter car parks, bus interchanges, and bike storage facilities at selected railway stations, allowing passengers to better access the rail network through a more accessible, integrated and sustainable public transport system.
GTA’s transport economics team assessed the economic viability of the station upgrade initiatives, taking into account benefits to different user groups including cyclists, bus users and park and ride individuals. We worked alongside PTV and Transport for Victoria to build an “economic case”of the proposed investment as part of PTV’s funding submissions for FY2019. Through the success of the economic evaluation, the proposed initiatives were subsequently included in the Victorian Budget for 2018-19.
