medindie transport and
parking plan

Medindie is an inner suburb north-east of Adelaide’s CBD in the Town of Walkerville. The Town of Walkerville appointed GTA Consultants to design the Transport and Parking Plan, including the study of existing conditions for traffic, public transport, walking and cycling amenity as well as parking infrastructure. A key part of the study was the community engagement through online surveys, emails and community drop-in sessions to better understand the concerns of residents and business owners.

The objective the background review and community consultation was to prepare a priority list of key initiatives to address the traffic and parking issues in Medindie with recommendations for projects that would be viable and practical to implement in the short-term. Potential options or solutions that would require more planning, concept design and detailed cost estimates were identified for future consideration by Council.

Some of the key concerns from the community were unwanted through traffic along residential streets, vehicles travelling at high speeds and corner cutting on right turns into local streets, car parking on both sides of narrow streets and poor pedestrian access and safety. From the list of issues identified, GTA proposed 33 initiatives to address the issues, with the top-ranking initiatives recommended for implementation, or concept planning and costing as relevant.
