peel street - jewry street intersection upgrades

GTA was awarded the civil detailed and traffic signal design for the intersection of Jewry Street and Peel Street (Manilla Road) in Tamworth, which replaces two existing roundabouts at the same location.

The GTA-led team, comprising members from our transport analytics and technical design teams, worked closely with Council and RMS to deliver the works to the project timeframes. As part of this, GTA undertook traffic analysis and transport modelling to inform the design and documentation of the intersection.

The design included road duplication and widening works, road re-surfacing, signage and line marking, pedestrian facilities and median improvements, guard fence, relocation of existing services, upgrades to existing stormwater drainage, and electrical works for street lighting upgrades and powering the traffic control signals.

In addition to increasing the throughput and efficiency of vehicles, these works also improved pedestrian and cyclist safety and amenity.

The design was developed concurrently with a separate package of works delivered by Council for the duplication of the bridge over Peel River. The scope of works enables Council to realise the growth that the town needs while improving connectivity across the municipality and creating interconnectedness with other towns like Manilla.

The design documentation was completed at the end of 2018 with the bridge duplication and roadworks completed and opened to the public in July 2019.
