Sydney - Technical designer

With an incredible line up of challenging and interesting projects, both in private and public sector, our Sydney office is now recruiting.

A role has become available in our Design team and we are now seeking a Technical Design Consultant. For this role, the ideal candidate is someone who is not only an excellent communicator and passionate about the delivery of high-quality design services and engineering solutions but also possesses the essential skills of producing construction traffic management plans (CTMP) and Swept paths.

As a Transport Design consultant, the successful candidate will perform duties requiring the application of professional traffic engineering design knowledge. With scope for individual accomplishment and coordination of more difficult design assignments, the professional will prepare a range of design documentation, such as concept road layouts, functional layouts, intersection designs, car park design and documentation, construction traffic management plans and more in either AutoCAD and / or MicroStation.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Providing technical assistance to GTA Professionals, including drafting /preparing CAD drawings using either AutoCAD and / or MicroStation
  • Designing functional layout plans and maintaining drafting standards
  • Providing traffic design advice to clients / design teams
  • Seeking approval for drawings from client and road authorities as required
  • Attending client / authority meetings as required
  • Assessing and designing road, intersection and parking layouts, including spaces, aisles and grades
  • Preparing draft reports and other correspondence as directed

Education: 

  • Bachelor of Engineering, Civil Drafting / Civil Engineering course or Advanced Certificate / Associate Diploma
  • 2 years’ experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCad (to intermediate level) preferred
  • Working knowledge of AutoTURN and / or Autodesk Vehicle Tracking
  • NSW Prepare Workzone Traffic Management Plan Certificate desirable

Experience:

  • Ideally 3 - 8 years’ experience (with a minimum of 2 years’ NSW experience preferable)
  • High level of analytical and reasoning skills
  • Strong communication and writing skills, with experience in the preparation and provision of traffic design advice
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and / or independently as required

Construction Traffic Management

  • A mixture of both Government and Consultancy experience desirable
  • Ideally 2 years’ experience with CPTMP work in Sydney CBD and inner City locations
  • An understanding of CPTMP approval process with RMS / Councils
  • An understanding of Contractor requirements and timelines

Drafting / Design

  • Preparation of swept path assessment using either Autoturn or Autodesk Vehicle Tracking
  • Preparation or knowledge of TCP’s Traffic Control Plans to RMS standards
  • Experience with Design and Construction Projects
  • Experience with preparation of Traffic Design Report
