GTA Consultants has provided extensive traffic and transport engineering advice through the bid, design and construction stages for the Grocon PCL Consortium building the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) in Parkville.

The VCCC is a recently opened $1 billion purpose-built facility that was jointly funded by the Victorian and Australian governments. It is one of ten world-leading cancer organisations that have come together to form the VCCC Alliance to share knowledge and resources and drive the next generation of cancer research, education, treatment and care.

The project required the development of an access strategy and design of the parking facilities for staff, patients, visitors, taxis, loading (including a 19.0m nitrogen tanker), waste collection, ambulances and correctional vehicles, as well as advice on construction traffic management, functional and traffic signal design. The project also involved intersection and microsimulation modelling of the existing and future operation of the intersections in the area and the site access points.

Throughout the 7 years of the project, GTA was responsible for extensive consultation around all aspects of the transport planning for the facility including with various state authorities, user groups and associated road authorities.
